We incorporated the philosophy of this solution into our creative thinking years ago.
If you stay within the boundaries defined by the dots, as most people assume they must, the puzzle cannot be solved. Only
by going outside the mentally-imposed boundaries can a solution be found.
Mentally-imposed boundaries (such as seeing the nine dots as a square) are often erected in business when trying to develop
marketing and sales strategies. Our ideas become limited to "the way things have always been done in the past" or defined
by industry competitors. What once were deliberate choices become mindless and inhibiting habits.
At Broadbent & Williams we believe it is important to create a working environment that encourages
employees to imagine possibilities outside conventional categories. Likewise, we want our clients to give us
flexibility to envision actions that cross traditional boundaries, to anticipate repercussions and take advantage
of interdependencies, to make new connections or invent new combinations.
